BIOGRAPHY
Professor Sebastian works as a Senior Consultant Neurologist and Professor of Neurology at the UAE University and at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. He has intensive clinical, teaching and research experience in neurology for over 20 years. He combines clinical expertise with up-to-date knowledge in neurology research. He is actively teaching students and resident doctors (lectures, practical courses, CMEs, > 400 hours/year). He is a very busy clinical neurologist and highly experienced with diagnosis and treatment of all neurological diseases, including emergencies, neurointensive care, stroke, meningitis, dementias, movement disorders (e.g., Parkinson), neuropathies, headache, pain syndromes, disc prolaps, and autoimmune disorders (e.g. MS). He is also very active in research (mechanisms of neuronal damage, neuroprotection). He has established the first Stroke Unit of the UAE.
Professor Sebastian is a licensed physician since 1993. From 1993 until 2000, he trained in neurology, psychiatry, and in neuroscience (Germany, Switzerland, USA). Since 2000 he worked at the Department of Neurology at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany and climbed up in his academic career (to full professor) and in his medical expertise (to consultant neurologist). He has board certifications in neurology, neurointensive care, neurological laboratory medicine electroencephalography, electroneurography, and electromyography.
Personally, he is much engaged in his work, compassionate and caring. He always strives for excellence in his patient care. He is highly active in patient care, in teaching neurology to both undergraduate and postgraduate doctors, and in neuroscience research. This ensures up-to date the newest guidelines, diagnosis and treatment strategies and disease prevention of the entire spectrum of brain, nerve and muscle diseases for the maximum benefit of his patients.
