Resolved question:
Dear doctor,
I am 20 years old and healthy. The problem I have is unheard for me before. I have a very sweet smelling urine. This is very strong in smell now-a-days and I started noticing it from last 2 weeks. What makes it smell sweet? Is this due to some infection? Should I be afraid of it? Thanks.

Thanks for your question and concern. Any abnormalities related to our body should be investigated. Sweet smelling of urine might be an indication of presence of high concentrations of sugar in it. It can be due to uncontrolled diabetes mellitus or a maple syrup urinary disease. Diabetic ketoacidosis can also result in a sweet smelling urine outcome. Functioning of your kidneys must be checked at the earliest. Consult your doctor for a urinalysis, by which a clear picture of the situation can be had from it. Blood glucose levels also should be examined carefully for any abnormalities. Consult your doctor or a urologist for a detailed checkup. Take care.
