My husband (47-year-old healthy, athletic, just had a physical and all was well) is experiencing severe vertigo for the first time and I have a few questions. He was getting out of bed in the middle of the night and the room was spinning and he felt like he was going to throw up. He was unable to even sit up for about 5 hours. Now he is able to carefully sit up and go to the bathroom, but has a terrible headache behind his left eye and feels fatigued and unsteady. He also has a little fullness in one ear. I have experienced vertigo before and mine is benign positional vertigo, so I know a bit about it. He has never experienced it before, though, and we are trying to figure out what caused it and how to help him get better. He thinks he is dehydrated and has been drinking lots of water. I wanted to know if it could be viral, caused by dehydration, caused by movement out of bed? We slept on a much lower mattress (on the floor) last night -- is there any way that could contribute to this? Thanks in advance for your help. He seems to be getting better, but we're wondering if he needs to see a doctor.
