Unable to pass last piece of stool. Reason?

Resolved question:
Hi, I am a 27 year old female and for the last 6 years old patientI have had problems when having a bowel movement. It is OK initially, however I am always left unable to pass the last piece of faeces, regardless of the consistency of the stool. It does not matter if I strain I am always left with the last part which I cannot pass and have to clean.

I have been to my GP and he advised me to eat more fibre which i have done and it does not seem to help. It is inconvenient, however I am able to live with it and just basically want to rule out anything sinister. Is there a common condition which this could be a symptom of?

Hello.

Thanks for the additional information.

The feeling of incomplete evacuation is most often due to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
As your doctor has advised you can take fiber supplements. This is the first line measure for IBS. You need to drink enough fluids too. A minimum of 2 liters everyday.
Since you have mentioned that there is blood in stool occassionally, I would advise you to get a sigmoidoscopy done to rule out lesions in the rectum. You can consult a Gastroenterologist for the same.

I hope that answers your questions.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.
