Treatment for LOW TESTERONE with weight gain.

Resolved Question:

Hi I am a 34 year old male recently diagnosed with low T. The test showed me to be at 217. I work 50 to 60 hours a week at a desk job and gained weight over last winter (which is when I began to have sexual and emotional problems). Along with being very inactive I was over eating and drinking alcohol heavily and drinking a lot of coffee as well. My blood pressure was borderline hypertension(138/85). I am 40 lbs over weight right now. I have stopped drinking alcohol and coffee and now my blood pressure is fine. My doctor put me on androgel 1.62 two weeks ago. After what I have been reading I don't think I want to stay on it. Although I feel great now. I would like to try to get my test up naturally. So my questions are....

1) Assuming I can get my low T up to a healthy level through lifestyle changes, how long will it take to see relief of symptoms.( I know everyone is different but a ballpark figure? weeks, months, year?)

2) I have read that testosterone replacement therapy stops the body from producing test on it's own and you will become dependent on it. Am I in immediate danger of this happening or does that happen after long term use. I would like to do this naturally if possible before I make a life long commitment to therapy.

Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com.

Dear sir, The body does not produce any testosterone if it is getting it from outside and hence you are not producing testosterone at this point of time. Once you stop supplementation you should start producing testosterone again. You need to lose weight, do physical exercise and stop alcohol. If you take these measures, then in all possibility your body will start producing testosterone again. You may start noting improvement only by the end of 3-6 months after making the necessary lifestyle changes.

Take care.
