Treatment for chest pain due to PLEURISY and ANXIETY.

Resolved Question:

Hi, my name is Candy. I am 35, weigh 140, and I am 5'6".y question is that I went to the ER a month ago with chest pain. I was finally diagnosed with pleurisy and anxiety but followed up with a cardiologist. I wore a holter monitor for 30 days, had an echo, and a stress test that all came out normal. However, the pain in my chest is still there and pretty severe. Aspirin is the only thing that will relieve the pain. The pain is a dull pain under my left breast and center of chest that will last for an hour. What should I do?

Hello. Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.

Can i know a few things about your pain. Was it central chest pain? Localising? Any associated symptoms like shortness of breath, vomiting, radiation of pain to shoulder or jaw? Association with exertion? Any association with food intake/ remaining empty stomach?
Can you fix the pain to a particular point?is there tenderness over any bony point?
If answer is negative, plus a normal ekg and x ray, then it can be a viral infection of rib endings, or lastly anxiety.
Would suggest application of hot bath, and some kind of local application of analgesics. Wont recommend aspirin on a regular basis.

Regards
Dr. Jacob George. P

Patient replied :

the pain is in the middle of my chest and under my left breast. It usually wakes me up during rest and it is usually just that pain and sometimes tingling in my arm, but I do have two herniated discs in my neck. I did exercise today with no problems other than shortness of breath and extreme fatigue afterwards. I do have jaw pressure (Iike TMJ) but no pain and my middle left portian of my back is sore and painful.

Dear patient,
Thank you for a detailed reply. The description of your pain doesn't seem to be from a cardiac or lung problem. Nor can a herniated disc in neck produce it. So I gather it has to be with the muscles. Do consider applying some hot water bag and local application of pain killers.
Will also suggest you to do a blood test- cpk(creatine phosphokinase-its called). If its also normal, then a muscle etiology can be ruled out, leaving back anxiety as the only cause. But before I label it as anxiety, i would like to rule out other causes.
Wish you good health
regards
Dr. Jacob
