Hi,
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.
Cocaine use may cause acute and chronic side effects.
Cocaine use is associated with acute more often than chronic cardiovascular illness.
Cocaine by causing increased oxygen demand, constriction of coronary arteries and predisposition to thrombus formation may cause ischemia, myocardial infarction, arryhthmias and clinical presentation in form of chest pain.
As s chronic side effects, cocaine use may cause cardiomyopathies, endocarditis, aortic dissection and heart failure.
Cocaine also promotes thrombus formation via activation of platelets and stimulation of platelet aggregability and predisposes to heart ailments.
Side effects on heart occurs more in younger patients.
Most of the side effects / chest pain occurs within 3 hours of cocaine use while presentation as chest pain after 12 hours is very less.
Half life of cocaine is nearby 1 hour and its effects last for only few hours but may cause chest discomfort.
As such no literature/ studies is available regarding window period for use of cocaine and cardio exercise in gym, its better to avoid 24-36 hours so that effects of cocaine will be shed off.
Take care,
