Hello, my question is about the thyriod. If you have had blood tests done and they come back "normal" but you still have symptoms of hypothyriodism is it worth doing a body tempurature test. I have heard blood tests are not always accurate, and for someone like me who has suffered with hypothyriod symptoms for many years, I am wondering what other avenues I can go down to completely rule out a thyriod issue.

Hypothyroidism can be pretty accurately diagnosed by clinical symptoms and blood TSH and T4 levels. Other tests include antithyroid antibody tests. What are your current symptoms? Do you have other major illness?

Hi thanks for getting back to me. Sorry I'm not able to upload the results. My biggest problem is constant fatigue, even if I have rested I am still tired and could sleep all the time, very hard to lose weight, my concentration levels are pretty bad and my memory is shocking. These are things that have gotten worse over time, especially over the last two years. I suffer from depression and have been on medication for that for the last 5 years, I'm on 187.5mg of veafaxine per day

The blood tests are very accurate. If there is hypothyroidism, the TSH will be high, and the T3,T4 levels will be high or just normal.
Yes, your symptoms do point towards hypothyroidism.
You can get an ultrasound of the thyroid, to see if there are any nodules. Sometimes the nodules can be in dormant stage and get suddenly active to cause such symptoms. The chances are low, but you can get the ultrasound done to completely rule out thyroid issue.

Does having a family history of hypothyroidism increase my chances, my mother has it and has been on medication since she was 30 years old to help control it

Yes, a positive family history does increase the chances of thyroid disorders in the subsequent generations.
It is more true for autoimmune conditions such as Hashimotos thyroiditis.
