Suffering from anal itch but no hemorrhoids.

Resolved question:

For the past week or so I have been suffering from anal itch. I understand that the common response would be hygiene or hemorrhoids, BUT I clean myself very often and I have gone to my doctor yesterday to get checked and I have no hemorrhoids. She noticed though that I have a cut near my anus (which could have been from constipation) and that it could be itchy because it's healing. She prescribed me bactroban cream and as it does help, the itch still becomes very intolerable and I restrain myself from scratching, which makes it worse. I am not sexually active, so it can't be an STD. However, I do go to the gym daily for 2 hours or so, and I stopped because of my rash. Could it be because of the gym? How long will a rash/cut around the anus take to heal? Please help, I'm losing sleep cause of this. Thank you!

Hello, Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.

The only way your gym could have contributed is excessive sweat collected causing irritation to skin and anaerobic infection. Its good you have consulted a doctor and ruled out haemarrhoids.

I suggest you to maintain properly toiletry habits, as you have already specified you already do. Try this everyday, take a tub filled with luke warm water, add potassium permanganate. And sit in tub for half an hour everyday. Potassium permanganate is a known antiseptic. If there is any infection, it will heal. And continue using Bactroban as your gp has prescribed you. When cleaning your anal region, do so gently. Harsh cleaning can also lead to bruises and cuts.

If the itch still continues, you can take antihistaminics like Citrezene, once everyday for five days. Will bring down your itch. Try also taking a lot of yoghurt, if its yeast, it will disappear. There is nothing you have to be worried about.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask follow-up questions
