I'm 19, and for almost a year I've had stabbing pain in my abdomen. All my blood work, and urine samples come out perfect. I saw a gynecologist, she asked me question, and she performed a laparoscopy on me. Everything looks fine there no problems. I was sent home. The pain comes and goes but it's always this intense stabbing pain originating from my right side. I went to the emergency room, and all they did was blood work. I'm really frustrated; they tested me for STIs for urinary track infection. And nothing positive came out. What do you think?

Hello, I understand your concerns. Whenever you complain of abdominal pain always think it may be from the duodenum, small intestine or pancreas or large intestine including colon, rectum and appendix and whether the pain is sudden or chronic and it also depends on radiation of pain, with its associated symptoms like nausea, vomiting, fullness of the abdomen or does any medication gives timely relief and so on and so forth. Pain may be of different characters, but in your case it is stabbing or cramping. The likely causes are indigestion, wind, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, appendicitis, kidney stones, pelvic inflammatory disease (in case of women), gallstones, food poisoning, stomach and duodenal ulcers, crohn’s disease, period pain and so on. So depending on the history, sign and symptoms, physical examination and laboratory investigations, we can arrive at a possible diagnosis and the treatment can be started according to that. Till you get these reports, you can have supportive therapy by taking painkillers or anti spasmodics like tablet ibuprofen twice a day after food for a week to ease your pain for the time being.
