Smooth, red skin infection in scrotum. CLOTRIMAZOLE, HYDROCORTISONE.

Resolved question:
I have had a skin infection in the scrotum since December 2014. It's smooth and bright red on the left side of the testicle. I've tried sorbolene with menthol. I've tried clotrimazole and hydorcortisone acetate creams for about 3-4 weeks without success. I've got some triamcinolone cream. Should I try it? The general doctors don't seem to be interested or know how to treat it. What are your thoughts on the diagnosis and treatment? I've attached a photo. Hope it helps.

Hello

Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I can understand your concern. I reviewed the picture.

It seems generally red. There could be two reasons :-

1. There is a bacterial infection called cellulitis

2. Due to overuse of steroid creams the skin remains red and probably got a little thinner.

I would recommend a course of oral antibiotic like azithromycin for 3 days.

You will require a prescription for it.

Application of mupurocin cream twice a day for a week would be helpful.

After a week you could let me know if there is any change and could send a picture. In case it doesn't improve, you will need to visit another dermatologist who could examine you and opine.

Please let me know if you have any queries.
Take care
