This query with regards to my son who is now 6 years old. We recently took a ultrasound scanning of his kidneys and renal system and the results showed certain pointers. I would like to discuss the ultrasound results. As can be seen in the result attached, the doctor showed us that the size of his kidney is slightly smaller as compared to the size of the kidneys typical of his age. Also the the size of the renal pelvis(0.5 cm) is more than expected(0.3 cm). As a precautionary measure doctor has ordered a DMSA renal scan to do some further investigation. I have some questions1. My son was not able to stay still when the ultrasound was being done as he has special needs. Could it have affected the readings when the ultrasound of the renal system was done.2. What does the DMSA scan actually do? I mean how will it help in diagnosis and treatment?3. Do some children have slightly smaller kidney as compared to other children?
