Resolved question:
hi, for several months now my mom has had a small, red spot on her upper thigh. It somewhat resembles a larger pimple, so at first she wasn't too concerned. However, what does make me worried is the total numbness she's experiencing surrounding the red spot. This has progressed over some time and though it hasn't effected her ability to walk and such, the fact that the numbness and presence of it has lasted for over 2 months is a concern. The internet hasn't been a very reliable source of information on it so far, so I was hoping that someone professional could help us out. Thank you!

Hello, Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring. Red spot with numbness typically points out to be Hansens disease. The disease is very slow progress ing and numbness is major symptom. A definitive diagnosis made by doing a skin scratch test and lepromin test. I suggest you visit a dermatologist. Aspirin or prednisolone are usually given to reduce inflammation. A number of different antibiotics (including dapsone, rifampin, clofazamine, fluoroquinolones, macrolides, and minocycline) are used to kill the bacteria that cause the disease. More than one antibiotic is often given together. Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask follow-up questions
