Risk of having cat with borderline ALLERGIES to animals.

Resolved Question:

Hi, I recently bought a cat and found via blood test I have low level/bordering on moderate allergies to animals. I was getting a runny nose and watery eyes.

I took my blood pressure and foind a reading of 135/70. Subsequent blood pressure readings were 145/72 and 127/68.

My question is - do cat allergies cause high/elevated blood pressure?

I had slightly elevated blood pressure 2 years old patientago for about 3 months now is back in the safe zone and have been for about 2 years old patient- through lifestyle changes.

I am not on any medication and am 35 years old patientold and weigh 72 kg.

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
No, cat allergies does not cause elevated blood pressure. Those prone to allergies have issues with cat dander, which can even cause severe allergies, but it does not cause high BP. Also, the BP that you mentioned is not very high, apart from one isolated systolic value. So, do not worry. You can monitor BP over the next 1 week, and let me know the values.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

Thank you doctor. And one last question. I will do HIV/AIDS and STD blood tests from time to time. If I have pet allergies will it potentially interfere with the results of a HIV/AIDS test or an STD test? I have heard all tests test for anti-bodies. Thank you.

Yes, but allergies never interfere with antibody testing.
Do not worry.
Regards.

Patient replied :

Thank you Doctor. So the antibodies detected say in an allergy blood test are different to those say in a HIV/AIDS blood test? Is this correct?

Yes, every infection has it's own antibodies. There is no relationship between allergies and HIV test antibodies.
