Red itchy welts

Resolved Question:

I woke up yesterday covered in red itchy welts and they have only gotten worse. I have no known allergies and eat a very limited diet. I have no idea what this could be and how to treat it. I have taken benadryl but it has not helped.

Hello

Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com, I can understand your concern.

You seem to be having urticaria. its also called hives. its a condition where there are red raised lesions all over the body with lot of itching.these lesions are of various sizes and shapes and they come and go on their own.

They need prompt treatment. Urticaria may be idiopathic or may have a variety of causative factors, there is an exhaustive list available but to tell you the truth its really difficult to pin point one thing.the best thing to do is to start prompt treatment for immediate relief.

Tablet fexofenadine 180 mg once in the morning and tablet levocetrizine 5 mg once daily at night for 2 weeks.

You can apply calamine lotion on the rash to soothe it. Twice a day till there is a rash.

Urticaria can be caused by foods, medications, pollen, house dust etc. Avoiding fish, milk, nuts for 15 days would be a good idea and see if it further helps you.

Please feel free to ask me in case you have any queries.

Regards

Patient replied :

I went to a family physician who prescribed me pepcid and hydroxyzine HCL 10MG each taken once a day. I'm also going back tomorrow for blood work. Are these medications similar to what you suggested? Thanks

Hello,

This medication is similar, but the ones I have suggested are more potent ones. You can take your Doctor prescribed medication. In case if there is no relief you may consider the options I have recommended (since it is more potent)

Thank you

Patient replied :

Thanks for your diagnosis. Could you have written me a prescription for those medicines? Maybe I misunderstood your service when I thought it was just diagnostic. Thank you for your time.

Hello,

Sorry I am not allowed to offer prescriptions online. It will not be valid either. You can get Allegra OTC (regular) or continue Hydroxicine. Both are good options.

Thank you
