You are suffering from recurrent tonsillitis with 5-7 episodes per year.
Other symptoms include fever, rash, joint pain, chest pain, breathing difficulty, blood stained nasal discharge with present episode.

I think you need detailed evaluation including :
• Throat swab : culture and sensitivity to find the bacteria causing infection
• ASO titre
• CT Scan or X-ray of PNS (Paranasal sinus ) – to rule out focus of infection in sinus, sinusitis
• To do chest X-ray- as you have chest pain and breathing difficulty.
• Nasal endoscopy can be done to get more information

Any further investigation can be decided by clinical examination and after following result of above investigation.

Recurrent tonsillitis (more then 4 episodes for two consecutive years) is an indication for tonsillectomy surgery, but it is a safe, simple and elective surgery can be planned later after all these investigation done and once present episode settles.

You need not discontinue your training, with proper evaluation followed by correct treatment.

I am sorry but I don't have any idea about cost of these investigations in USA. These investigations are not required urgently, you can plan them later as well. But you should do throat swab when you get infection before starting any antibiotics.
Tonsillectomy is very elective surgery. You can do it after one or two year also.
At present you should take adequate medication including antibiotics (Amoxicillin with clavilanic acid (Augmentin 625 mg two times daily for 5 days) will be best for tonsillitis infection.
