Hello,
Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.
As you might be aware, Jaundice is just a symptom. Since you had two episodes of jaundice, I assume that it might have been evaluated. As in, what caused the jaundice (Hepatitis A, B, C , Drugs ? Alcohol ?). If you have this information with you please share it with me so that I can provide my best and learned opinion. Also what was your latest Bilirubin value ?
You can reply as a follow up
Thank you
Patient replied :
Thanks Deepu. I had Jaundice because of Hepatitis C. I am a non-smoker, non-alcoholic and vegetarian. My doctor termed it as Gilbert's syndrome.
The latest Bilrubin value which I was checked in January was 0.8.
Kindly advice.
Thanks,
Ashish
Thank you for the additional information.
If there is a confirmed diagnosis of Hepatitis C you will needed further evaluation and antiviral treatment. This is because Hepatitis C has a high risk of transformation into cirrhosis and this can only be prevented by taking antiviral medication. The treatment initiation depends on lot of factors.
I presume the jaundice is due to a chronic hepatitis C (rather than an acute hepatitis C). You will need a serological study and RNA studies. You should be under the care of Medical Gastroenterolgist.
The current symptom (feeling of vomiting) might be due to the mild hepatitis you are having. Mild acid peptic disease could also cause it, so you can take an anti ulcer drug like C.Omez 20mg once a day just before sleep for 4-5 days. This is a safe drug and will help in reducing the symptoms. But the mainstay of treatment would continued care for the Hepatitis C.
Hope this helps
