I would like to know a few more details regarding the rash to enable me to diagnose what could it be. If you can send a picture it would be better as that would give me a clear idea of what the rash is. You could do so by adding it as a follow-up query.

The rash is red and a bit inflamed and it looks like a bunch of little bumps on the skin it's not very very painful but it does sting a little bit when I put ointment on it

From the description that you have provided, it seems to be a case of folliculitis which is a bacterial infection of the skin.
Folliculitis can at times be caused due to yeast infection.
The best treatment would be application of clotrimazole cream and neosporin cream on it twice a day for a week.
In case there is no relief after a week of application, i suggest that you visit your dermatologist so he could have a look and advise you accordingly.
