Raised blood pressure after heavy drinking. ATENOLOL.

Resolved question:
I'm 38 year old obese women. I am on the medication Atenolol 50mg once daily.
Over the past 2 days I have been drinking heavily and i was taking my medication in lower doses throughout the day. My blood pressure at less than an hour ago was 150/103 and heart rate is 59bpm
My blood pressure as of right now is 156/100 and 69bpm my hands and feet are cold
Should I seek emergency medical attention or is there anything I can do right now to have my blood pressure go down and heart rate up? Should I go for a walk? Should I just rest? Is there something I can eat/drink. Pill I should take.
I know what I did was dangerous and stupid. Just really scared. Please help ASAP.

Thank you

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Since you have been taking the medicine at a lower dose, throughout the day, it has been ineffective in controlling your BP to say the least.
Moreover, the body gets used to whatever medicines you take. Suddenly, if you take Aten 50 now, you can also end up developing hypotension.
As of now though, your BP is high and there is mild-moderate hypertension.
You need to talk to your physician and tell him about your symptoms. He will again measure your BP, and add a Calcium Channel Blocker like Amolodipine for controlling your BP. It is not an emergency, but it is better you get yourself evaluated once.
I understand people make mistakes sometimes. Please do not worry. From now on, you can take your medicines properly and also avoid drinking as far as possible.
Hope this was helpful,
Dr. Jaydeep
