Pressure, pain in chest with liquid bowel movements.

Resolved Question:

I have not had a solid bowel movements in about 4 days. It's only liquid, and the liquid seems to be only equivalent to my fluid intake. I have a very large amount of pressure and pain in the center of my chest, just below my ribs. Is this something I need to work about? I'm waiting in the ER in Toronto, but the wait could be so long I would miss my flight back to the US. I really need to find out if this is fatal.

As per your description, it looks like you had acquired infection of the gut.It could be due to contaminated food or water.
You should take plenty of liquids, preferably ORAL REHYDRATION Solution.It will give you electrolytes.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Rifaximine tablet , a Pre and Probiotic capsule along with Rabeprazole 20mg tablet to my patients with similar complaints.
Nothing to worry.

Please avoid milk and milk products.

Are there any over-the-counter remedies I can use to relieve the pressure or kill the infection? Is it safe to fly with this infection? Should I stay away from solid food until it comes out? Thanks so much for your reply.

Hi,
All antibiotics will not work in this situation. Some antibiotics like Ampicillin,Amoxycillin etc will cause diarrhoea.
You can try Ciprofloxacin or Ofloxacin tablet along with a Pre and Probiotic capsule at the counter.
You can avoid solid foods for few days.
Please take Electrolyte rich liquid.
If your Blood pressure is normal, you can fly.If it is very low,you need Intravenous fluids.
