Resolved question:
After 40 years of masturbating regularly, my penis has held up amazingly well. But now the skin has worn down on the left side just below the head, and is very thin for about the size of a penny. I do it right handed. I always use plenty of petroleum jelly so it doesn't seem like it would get enough friction to wear down, and until now it never has. After an ejaculation, it becomes very red, but not enough to bleed. It looks like a sore left from a scrape on the leg or somewhere. Lately I have been masturbating only twice a week, so it is not like I am over working it. After not doing it for a week or so, it looks a little better, but another masturbation rubs the spot raw again. Two weeks is about all I can handle without doing it and keep my sanity, as I have no one to have sex with. I was wondering if some kind of ointment would help it heal faster. Or once this happens, is it something that won't likely heal up back to normal?

Hello,
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Yes, it does seem related to the friction, as the skin also keeps getting dry with ageing. However, if you do have a blister, will you be able to upload an image for me to review if it is infected?
Normally, using enough oil based lubricant should suffice. In some cases, the wound takes a longer time to heal, if there is any history of T2DM.
An image will be helpful,
Awaiting your reply,
Regards.
It does not look infected and has not started to bleed. It has not broken skin although there is a tiny spot that looks like it is about to. What kind of ointment should I use? And now that this is starting to happen, should I expect it to be a recurring problem long term?
Hello,
Thank you for your follow-up.
Although it can't be confirmed only by looking at the picture, there seems to be some amount of fungal infection around the glans penis, and that can lead to the sore kind of a look.
I will advise you to apply Clotrimazole powder/ ointment and Mupirocin ointment twice daily to be applied in 30-minute intervals.
You can also confirm the diagnosis by getting it physically examined by your dermatologist.
Fungal infection can cause excessive dryness leading to such blisters.
Please feel free to discuss further,
Regards.
