Pain in upper abdomen on eating with normal ULTRASOUND.

Resolved question:
I have had a pain in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen just under my ribs for about 4 years old patientnow. I saw a doctor who had an ultrasound and blood work performed but nothing was found. I saw another doctor who said they thought it was muscular and it should go away but it never did. It has been bothering me for the past few days but I cannot get an appointment with my primary care doctor until December. Is this something that would be concerning enough that I should go to urgent care or an emergency room or should I just wait to get an appoint with my PCP?

History of this issue:

This started about 4 years old patientago after a period of constipation. I had a bunch of life changes and I think the constipation was caused by stress. The constipation cleared up but around that same time I developed the uncomfortable or sometimes slightly painful feeling below my right rib. There is no other symptoms along with the pain. No vomiting, no diarrhea. It appears to start without warning and sometimes lasts for a few hours sometimes for a few days. Then it might go away for a week or more or sometimes just come back a day or two later. I have tried to correlate the pain with food that I am eating but I cannot seem to find anything conclusive that could be causing it in my diet.

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Since the ultrasound as well as the blood work came normal, it is highly unlikely that it needs immediate attention. Sometimes inflammation around the ribs may cause similar pain, which comes on and off, the condition being known as costochondritis. It settles down on taking pain-killers. Can you try a course of Advil twice daily after food, and let me know if the symptoms improve?
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

Thanks for your reply,
Is there anyway through lifestyle changes or any other approach that I could prevent these episodes if it is costochondritis?

Unfortunately the cause of costochondritis is mostly labelled to be idiopathic. It still has not been established, what is the major cause of this inflammation.
Kindly take the medicines and let me know if it helps.
Regards.
