Resolved question:
Hi,
I'm a 22 year old girl and I have been feeling really nauseous for two weeks now. The first four days I had a stomach-ache, I was nauseous especially in the morning and during/after meals. I took something called 'Imutis' for a day (which I still had from a previous stomach flu) and the next day I felt way better. I assumed that whatever I had was out of my system so I started eating normally again. Yet after two days I suddenly woke up nauseous again, and this time I also had diarrhea, so we decided to visit our doctor.
She told me I had a stomach flu, but sort of like a 'weak version' and she explained that my immume system was high enough to hold the disease at bay, which caused that it took longer to get better. Unfortunately after a few days there still wasn't any improvement, in fact my loss of appepite only got worse, so we went to the hospital where they did a general blood test, urine test and took scans of my abdomen.
It didn't reveal anything except for a bladder infection, which they called an 'accidental discovery' and they told me it had nothing to do with the symptoms I was experiencing. They gave me antibiotics for that (I haven't taken any yet).
I was hoping my symptoms would still just go away after a few more days but I'm starting to get really worried that they won't. The thing is, I can't afford to lose a lot of weight because I also have Pfeiffer's disease (which causes me to lose weight even faster) and I am already underweight (1m70 - 46kg). So I was actually attempting to gain weight (which gives me, according to my doctors, a better chance of conquering the Epstein-Barr virus) and it was working pretty well until I got this. I can barely eat anymore (maybe 1000-1500calories a day, could be less) and I'm starting to lose sleep over it as well.
I'm scared of how much longer this will take and how much weight I can lose before it gets dangerous.
Here is some more information: I have no fever, I don't have to throw up (although it often seems like I have to), my stomach rumbles a lot, I've noticed I suddenly burp a lot more (especially during and after meals), sometimes I have diarrhea (nothing extreme), it seems to randomly hurt at various places in my intestines or stomach, I'm not even really sure where exactly, but when the doctor felt it hurt most on the left side under my ribcage
I hope you can give me an idea of what this could be or what I have to do/take to cure it.
Thank you for your time.
Emily

Hi Emily,
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
You are having dyspeptic symptoms and diarrhea.
As your doctor said all these symptoms could probably be due to a stomach bug.
I would advice you to get a stool test done.
The pain you get on the left side just below the rib cage may be due to gastritis.
I would advise you to take prilosec once daily before breakfast for 4 weeks.
To relieve nausea you can zofran three times a day before food.
You can take probiotics and yogurt to get faster relief from diarrhea.
If the stool test reveals any organism, you may have to take medications to eradicate the infection.
I hope that answers your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
