Missing periods for last 2 months

Resolved Question:

Hi,

I am a 42 years old lady with almost perfect health. The problem I am facing now is about missing periods. I haven't had my periods for the last 49 days. But while using a tissue paper to wipe myself, it seems that there is a brownish discharge in it. I also suffer from pain on the right groins. I cant have kids and am fine, excluding this situation. I am not under stress or imbalanced hormone levels. I am not pregnant also. For the pain, my doctor keeps on giving pain killers which are not going to give a permanent solution for my problem. Please help.

Thank you for consulting with Doctorspring. I understand that you have been having right groin pain, brownish per vaginal discharge and you have not had your periods for the past 49 days. First of all, the history you have provided is incomplete to give any diagnosis but I can detail you as to the how you may have to be worked up.

Your complete gynecological history including whether you have been having regular periods earlier, the reason why you were told you cannot have children would be of immense help in coming to a diagnosis. Is this your first episode of groin pain or you have had lower abdominal pain earlier? Were you worked up for it any time in the past? Does your groin pain have any association with exertion, foot infection, swelling in your groin, does the pain appear or disappear in relation to various phases of your menstrual cycle. Your groin pain may or may not be related to your menstrual problems. So you may be referred to an orthopaedician for bone related problems.

You mentioned that your hormone levels were normal. Have you been on any hormonal pills in the past or had any hormonal excess or deficiencies for which you were treated? Have you been having other symptoms of menopause like hot flashes, dryness in your vagina, weight gain? To rule out pregnancy, you will have to undergo a simple urine pregnancy test because it is the first thing that should be ruled out in at any age. Other tests you may have to undergo are an abdominal ultrasound and X-rays.

You must now visit your family doctor and make sure all your complaints are assessed and reinforce that your symptoms are not being relieved by pain killers alone. Ask whether you need a referral to a gynecologist and an orthopaedician. I’m sure that your family doctor means well and will be able to help you. Hope this information for useful to you.
