Hello,
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.com.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
I understand that you have had a depressive episode in the past and depression is mostly self limiting and will resolve by self after 1-2 years. The need for treatment is to mitigate the duration as well as reducing the damage the brain will face during the depressive phase.
You have stated that you had problem with your medications ( no names provided) in which you used to sleep a lot. However there are plenty of different types of medicines available and many of them do not cause a lot of sleep. Your medicines should have been changed to those medications by your psychiatrist. The fact that you are not able to concentrate and make up memories suggests two things.
1) Your depression is still persisting
2) There is a possibility of damage in your "concentration center" of the brain cause of the long existing depression.
How to manage?
You first need to seek a consultation for a psychiatrist who would like to assess you for the residual depression which is the most likely diagnosis. If the depression is still present then that has to be treated. In my clinic I routinely use medications such as bupropion and fluoxetine which do not cause sedation and I also start the patient on cognitive behavioral therapy. These therapy session help you in ways to learn to concentrate and remember things along with focusing on your deranged thoughts.
Regarding your natural remedies, unlikely possibility although some suggest fresh citrus fruits and stopping coffee and alcohol. Aerobic exercises have shown some significant benefit.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
Wish you good health,
Kind regards

Hello,
Thanks for the follow up query.
Increased beta activity suggests that the patient is anxious. In patients of depression and anxiety eeg is routinely having increased beta activity.
Regarding prescribinh fluoxetine, I prescribe 20 mg of capsule ones a day to my patients and bupropion I advice to start at 150 mg per day initially increasing to 300 mg in my clinic. I see a good improvement in this dose.
However at DoctorSpring, being an internet consultation, I will be unable to provide you a prescription for the same. May be you can discuss these issues with a local doctor who could examine you personally and help you with a prescription.
Hope that helps

Hello,
Serlift is basically sertraline and its a molecule similar to that of fluoxetine. It will help you with your depression as well as reduce the damage to your brain. Its a good drug and you should take it for atleast 12-15 months. It may cause some sedation, look for it and report it to your doctor in case you feel sedated.
Unfortunately, it is a short come of online consultation that I wont be able to prescribe you medications with our examining you in person. So I am sorry, but I wont of of that help to you.
Its unfortunate that you couldn't get a good doctor who cold hear you patiently. May be you can try out some other psychiatrist in your area who can be good to you.
Hope that helps
