Management of joint pain from ATT use

Resolved Question:

I am female 16 years old patientold. I am undergoing treatment for Meningitis for the past 3 months. Though no conclusive evidence of viral / bacterial infection could be found from Lumbar Puncture, my doctor has started ATT.

I am taking RCinex, Pyzina 500mg, torleva, oleptol 150mg and benadon.

I have pain in my joints and shooting pain in the bones often. Occassionally I get numbness in my right hand for a few seconds.

When I consulted my doctor for the joint pains, he took a uric acid test and found the level was slightly elevated and prescribed Febuget 40.

Is the joint pain due to the medicines or due to meningitis? and what is the solution?

Hello,
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I have noted your medical details and current medications.
High uric acid levels and joint pains in your case are most probably related to medicine Pyzina (pyrazinamide). It is not related to meningitis.
You are already on the correct treatment for lowering uric acid- Febuget (febuxostat).
As of now, you should continue treatment as suggested by your doctor, you would get better soon.
Let me know if i can help you further,
Best wishes,

Patient replied :

Dear Doctor,
Thanks for your prompt reply. The joint pains greatly affect my day to day activities like going to school etc. Are there any simple remedies to reduce the pain. How long should I take the medicines? My doctor prescribed Ezact for a few days and asked me to avoid pain killers as much as possible.

Hello,
Thank you for getting back.
You would require anti-TB medications for at least 18 months to achieve complete cure of tunerculous meningitis.
Regarding high uric acid, you may require medications for 4-6 weeks.
You may take ezact (etoricoxib) once a day to relieve pain. It is safe if used for short-term basis.
Best wishes,
