Hello ,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.
There is nothing to worry about. It is a normal physiological process. This whitish discharge you have described is called vaginal discharge. This discharge is secreted from the glands in the vagina and the cervix, which lubricates and keeps the area free from infection. Generally, the discharge is milky white in color and odorless. It is minimal in quantity, however in certain conditions like during pregnancy, breast-feeding, sexual arousal it increases in amount. Unless you have a sudden increase in quantity or if it is associate with burning and intense itching then it should be probably due to an underlying infection.
Abnormal vaginal discharge is seen in certain conditions like:
Bacterial vaginosis it appears white – yellow with a fishy odor,
In gonorrhea it appears yellow,
During yeast infection it appears cheesy white with thick consistency.
In your case, the discharge is due to the use of the birth control pills. Birth control pills consists of a combination of two hormones namely oestrogen and progesterone. Oestrogen component in the pill causes stimulation of the glands which results in vaginal secretion. This secretion prevents the vagina from dryness.
As long as the discharge is not foul smelling, itching and increases in quantity, there is nothing to be worry about . I would suggest you to use a mild soap during shower twice a day and to avoid using tight clothing. It would be best to wait and watch for a week and if the condition worsens then you can consult your obg-gyn doctor.
Hope this helps. Thank you.
