Late periods on changing BIRTH CONTROL PILLS. Reason.

Resolved Question:

Hello,
I have been on the pill for years (probably about 15) and I am always regular, always on time, always the same symptoms. My period has been the same for years.
Last month, I got my period 2 days late and it lasted only 2 days, compared to 4-5. So that Sunday I started a new pack of pills like I always do and two weeks later I got mid-cycle bleeding. It was brownish and was present for about 5 days. I looked into it and read that it could be residual bleeding (old blood) from my last period. I didn't think any more than that honestly. I thought if get my next period as I normally do and that'll be that.
But now last Wednesday I was supposed to start my regular period at my regular time and it didn't come at all. No cramps, not even spotting. I started a new pack of pills anyway. It not sure I should do that?
So needless to say I'm not quite sure what could be going on? My boyfriend and I have been together for 6 years so nothing has changed there either.
Suggestions?
Thanks :)

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
At times, while on the pill, you might experience some form of irregular spotting / bleeding.
Do not give it much thought, it is fairly common.
You were quite right in continuing the pill pack as usual.
Had you not done that, you would have experienced more irregular spotting or bleeding.
Most probably your next period would be on time.
However, with any deviation from your normal period, you should always take a pregnancy test.
If that is negative, nothing needs to be done this month, apart from continuing your pills on schedule.
If you experience any more such issues next month onwards, a consultation with an OB - GYN is due.
An internal exam, a Pap smear, pelvic ultrasound scan and hormonal levels should be done.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
Regards.
