Hello,Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.
The presence of purplish veins on her leg point out to Varicose vein.
Varicose veins are basically dilated or enlarged vein in leg where there is defect in valve. There are some conservative management you can do at home like:
- Ask her to keep her leg elevated whenever possible.
- A good exercise regimine will keep it going, walking everyday morning will help.
- Avoid keeping your leg in one position for long time, by this I mean avoid sitting for a long time. When possible take a walk.
- There are stockings available in the market, which will give you relief from pain. Though I advise you to not wear the stockings continuously for a very long time.
If the above measures don't help, I suggest you to visit a physician, who will perform a number of tests like Doppler to check the blood flow in leg. There are surgeries for Variose vein, it is very unfortunate that recurrence rate is high.
If they are spider veins, underlying cause should be found and treated, most commonly liver failure.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask follow-up questions
