Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I have reviewed the x-ray and he does have a fracture at the neck of the femur, where surgery is the best option. Significant complications such as avascular necrosis and non-union are very common without surgical intervention. The treatment options for the other types of fracture such as the base includes non-operative management, internal fixation or prosthetic replacement. Internal fixation can be performed with multiple pins, crossed screw-nails or compression with dynamic screw and plate. In this case, I agree with your doctor, and surgery should be done.
Regards.

Thank you Dr Mukesh; as we understand there are two ways for surgical intervention- one involving prosthetic insertion, which option out of the two is advisable. Also, considering that the patient is 60 years of age, trust the recovery is speedy and there are no side effects. Any precautions advised post surgery?
Would appreciate a quick response as the patient is awaiting our decision.
Regards

Prosthetic insertion is a better option for him, considering his age and also, the recovery is quick.
Post-op he needs to be at bed rest for at least 2 weeks, limiting any kind of movements on the hip joint. He will be fine if he can do that.
Regards.
