Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
With the 4th generation test, it can turn positive as early as by the end of 2nd week, still it is better to wait for a month and get the test done, if it is ruled out at the end of one month, 99 % HIV infection is ruled out.
I think since HIV is common among prostitutes in Thailand, they asked you to take the prophylaxis. You need to take PEP for 4 weeks, if you have already started, and that will negate whatever little chances you have of getting HIV. It does not matter how long it takes for HIV to show up, PEP will get rid of whatever HIV viral particles are there in the body, preventing replication.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

As i am still on holiday i would like to consume more alcohol , would this have a major effect ,
Hello,
If you are taking the PEP then you should avoid alcohol, as it may adversely affect your liver.
Please avoid alcohol if you are going to or have started the prophylaxis.
