How to monitor ovulation cycle using the CLEAR BLUE MONITOR?

Resolved question:
Hello,

I started trying for a baby last month using the Clear Blue fertility monitor. I have used this previously so it should have remembered my cycles.

My last period was on May 2nd. According to the monitor, I ovulated on May 19th. However, I have not had a period since and have had several negative pregnancy tests.

I can only presume that I didn't ovulate last month? If this is correct, how do I know where I am in my cycle now? According to the monitor (adding 2 weeks to my supposed ovulation date), my next cycle would have begun around Jun 2nd. Does that mean that I am now 3 weeks into a new cycle and so have already ovulated again? Or do I need to wait to have another period before my body will begin working again as it should?

I am 37 years old, I had a follicular count recently and have 29 follicles. I had not problem conceiving my first child 2 years ago. However, I do have irregular periods (29-40 days with the longest before this cycle being the one before at 43 days).

Thank you!

With irregular cycles, the Clear Blue fertility Monitor is not a reliable device.

There is no way of knowing your current status apart from going in for a pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan.

That would show the status of the egg follicle and also the status of the endometrium ( lining of the uterus ) thus showing you where you stand from the menstrual phase point of view.

The best way to ascertain your fertility is to have your AMH levels measured, that is more reliable than a follicular count.

It reflects the ovarian reserve ( capacity of the ovaries to produce good quality and number of eggs, which is age related in females ) most accurately.

Also, you should go for 3 - 6 cycles of follicular monitoring, where the growth of the egg is tracked with serial scans, thus allowing you to time intercourse perfectly.

Take regular folic acid supplements, needless to say.

All the best

Hello,

thanks for your response. I had my AMH levels measured too - they were very high (about 38 in UK measurement terms). I had a vaginal ultrasound for my follicle count about 2 months ago - it's not something I can afford to do again as it was not cheap!
So you are saying that I can not work out where I would be in my cycle? Even if I can't pinpoint the actual cycle day, can you tell me if after a missed period/anvoluntary cycle, the cycle starts again without a period or do I need to wait until my next period before my body would be fertile again?

Thanks

In your case, it could be a late period , delayed ovulation etc.

Even in an anovulatory cycle, you would have your period before the entire phase begins afresh.

Sorry can I just clarify. Does that mean that I will not have a fertile time/period until I have had a period again? So I can not get pregnant until after I have had another period?

Once more, with irregular cycles, there are no assumptions.

It could just be a delayed cycle, in which case you could have or might ovulate late.

Whether you would still ovulate or a fresh cycle would start depends on how late your period is.

It is impossible to say without a pelvic scan. Get a pelvic scan if possible and then we will have a clearer picture.
