Resolved question:
Hi, I received an MRI about 15 years old patientago. About 30 minutes after the MRI hives showed up on my skin that were itchy if I remember correctly.
They told me I had received iodine contrast and that next time I would need an MRI in the future the reaction could be worst. They also told me to tell this to the radiologist in the future because they are other types of contrast available.
I will need to have another MRI in a few days. Should I be worried about having the MRI and contrast agent causing more problems then hives this time around ?
Thank you

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
It looks like you had a mild anaphylactic reaction to the iodinated MRI contrast , medium. This does mean that the next contrast injection could flair up this reaction , which can be choking & angioedema in extreme cases
( very rare though ) , so a contrast examination in MRI is best avoided for you.
But if this is not possible & your Radiologist thinks contrast is absolutely mandatory to view your scan better , than in that case you should insist on low osmolar MRI contrast medium to be given , under the supervision of an Anaesthetist doctor. Your MRI exam with contrast should be done under SUPERVISION ONLY , by a trained Anaesthetist.
Hope this was helpful.
If you have any other queries , please let me know.
Thanks
