Resolved question:
I routinely get blood tests done each year. This includes the std panel. This year my test came back positive for herpes 2,
I have been with my boyfriend and no one else for 7 years. He has been caught cheating on me.
I have had a breakout recently. Is it safe to assume he infected me. I believe it is. I knowing an be dormant for years but would have shown up in my blood work.
Am I misinformed. Pls educate me.
Many thanks.

Hello,
Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.
Yes, it is reasonable to assume that your partner infected you with Herpes Genitalis / HSV 2.
Since you have a previous record that states negative for HSV –2 you should have contracted the virus from a recent sexual relationship.
However there is a good possibility that your partner might have acquired it long back and stayed positive all the time. Or in other words, this positive test alone does not indicate that your partner had another sexual relationship recently.
Hope this clarifies.
