Heavy vaginal bleeding in middle of periods on CLOMID.

Resolved question:
Hello! I have PCOS. And before I had my son, my periods were non-existent. I had my son in April 2014 with the help of fertility (clomid). I am 21 years old. My periods returned about a month later in July. At first they seemed like I was going to have normal cycles! For about 3 months they were like clock work. Then I started spotting in between periods, which I didn't think much of. Then about two months ago, my bleeding got really heavy. I would stay on a period for 9+ days And still start spotting two weeks later. I also would bleed vaginally after a BM. Then a month ago, I bled for 10 days, very heavily. I stopped bleeding for about 8 days and then started bleeding again very heavy. I saw my GYN. She put two fingers inside and felt around but did not press down on the outside like a lot of doctors do when doing that exam. She said it was jist a pcos hormone problem and she put me on progesterone 3 times a day for 10 days. It stopped the bleeding. She also told me to start the birth control, Tri-Sprintek, one i finished the progesterone. The day after I stopped taking Progesterone, I started bleeding again. I started taking the birth control the next day following my last dose of progesterone. I am currently on day 6 of the birth control. I am bleeding very heavily, soaking through a pad an hour. I called yesterday and they told me that it was just from the progesterone and hormones. Even though I informed the nurse that the reason I was doing all this was to stop the heavy bleeding. I was told to wait out 3 months. Well today, I have begun passing clots left and right. They are bigger than a quarter. More along the size of a half dollar. I am concerned that maybe this isn't just a PCOS hormone problem and maybe something else. Hoping you can shed some light. I am tired of just being chalked up to a girl with PCOS.

Hello
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
Frankly, this does NOT sound like a PCOS problem.
Women with PCOS do have irregular and delayed cycles, and irregular shedding of the lining of the uterus.
When they do have periods, they are heavy, because the shedding off of the lining that is heavy causes heavy bleeding.
But the extent and severity of the bleeding that you describe, that is not normal even considering the clinical profile of PCOS.
You might be having a fibroid, cyst, a cervical lesion or a polyp.
IN addition to an internal exam, you need a transvaginal ultrasound scan and a Pap smear at the earliest.
Please get that done, tomorrow itself if possible.
YOu just cannot go on bleeding this way.
ANd if the birth control is not helping, you might need to be on heavy progesterone dosages.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
Regards.

I forgot to mention, I have been experiencing lower back pain, cramping, and joint pain. I am tired no matter how much sleep I am getting, and just have no energy to do anything. I know having PCOS can put me at a higher risk for cancer, and my father is adopted so I don't know that family history. I get a little worried because I am afraid my symptoms match some of those of cancer. And I know that is probably me just being paranoid. I'm glad you agree that it doesn't sound like a PCOS issue. I know my body and something is definitely off. Thank you so much.

Hey, relax.
PCOS does increase your chances of developing endometrial cancer, but not at 21, and even at a higher age, the risk is not as high as you think.
Very few women with PCOS go on to develop this cancer - obesity, smoking , diabetes and hypertension increase this risk tremendously.
I think you are more likely to have endometrial hyperplasia or a polyp.
Please have the evaluation .
Let me know how it goes.
You might be having this symptoms due to the blood loss and resultant anemia / thyroid issue.
Get these tested too.
