Head injury from impact with a writing board

Resolved Question:

Hi

Yesterday at work, a white writing board ( weighing about 3-4 kg most likely made of compressed wood 3 feet x 2 feet) slipped form the stand and feel on the back of my head. Though the impact left me a bit dazed, I am not feeling any pain around that area. There is not bump also formed. Overall I am feeling normal and there isn't any headache or any other symptom. I took a flight later in the evening and had a decent night sleep without any difficulty. Kindly advise if I need to see a Doctor and get this investigated further. Also what are the symptoms I need to watch out for just in case a medical assistance is needed and in what time frame is the possibility of any such symptom appearing? Thanks. I am anxious.

Hello,

Thank you for your consult at DoctorSpring.com.

From your description, there appear to be no signs or symptoms of head injury. So I think there is nothing to be worried about. But I suggest you to watch for signs and symptoms for the first 48 hours after injury. Symptoms may occur as long as several weeks, though. If you have any one or more of these symptoms such as vomiting, severe headache, blurred or double vision, weakness in an arm, shoulders, or any part of the body, loss of bladder or bowel control, confusion, drowsiness, personality changes, convulsions, loss of consciousness, stiff neck, sleep disturbance, trouble concentrating and remembering, immediately seek medical help.

They will closely monitor you with an overnight stay in the hospital. Sometimes you might be asked for a CT scan or an MRI to check on the extent of damage.

Hope this helps, Please feel free to ask If you have any further questions.

Regards

Since I am really anxious, can this sort of an injury be dangerous? I am feeling a little headache in the top part of my head and just a little bit of pressure on my eye sight since morning. Nothing on the memory side though. Should I consult a doctor right away with these symptoms.

Hello,

Generally this type of injury (from what you have described) is NOT dangerous. And the symptoms also appear to be non significant. Watch for them for 4-6 hours. If there is increase in symptoms / new symptoms get medical help.

Thank you
