Resolved question:
I am having heart palpitations daily. My Head is fuzzy and sometimes I get blurred vision. I Am currently taking 10mg Amlodipine and 10mg Atenelol once a day for hypertension which was diagnosed in 2005. My last BP reading taken three days ago was 136/82. I would like to know what could possibly be wrong. I am also thinking of starting a cardio- workout at home and am wondering if its safe. I weigh 75kg at the moment

Hello, Heart palpitations are the feelings of rapid, fluttering or pounding heart beats which is usually triggered by exercise, stress, medication and rarely underlying medical condition. You are a hypertensive and on medication and the latest BP 136/82 is all right. However it is the symptom of heart condition like arrhythmias that may require treatment. It can occur whether you are active or at rest. If the palpitations are infrequent and lasts only a few seconds, it does not require any evaluation. If there were a history of heart disease or have frequent palpitations, then it would be best to consult your doctor. You have to seek emergency medical attention if the palpitations are accompanied by chest pain or discomfort, fainting, severe shortness of breath, severe dizziness. Common causes of heart palpitations are: severe anxiety, strenuous exercise, caffeine, nicotine, fever, hormonal changes during menstruation, pregnancy or menopause, cold and cough medications containing Pseudo ephedrine, asthma inhaler medications, overactive thyroid, arrhythmias. The complications include fainting, cardiac arrest, stroke or heart failure. I would suggest you to get an ECG, Chest X ray, ECHO Cardiogram, heart monitoring and review these reports with an cardiologist for next course of action. Thank you.
