False positive pregnancy test due to XANAX, B12 medicines.

Resolved question:
I take xanax on rare occasion where I am suffering from sleepless nights, etc with anxiety. I took a low dosage this morning and also took a pregnancy test approximately 7 hours later. I took a First Response test which gave me one strong line and a faint second line which they say is a positive. I also took a ClearBlue digital test that says pregnant with a 2-3 next to it which they say means 4 - 5 weeks pregnant. I also take Mucinex Allergy daily and vitamin b12 injections 2 times per week.
My question is... can Xanax, allergy medicine or b12 injections lead to a false positive pregnancy test?

Hello.
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
The Clearblue pregnancy tests, as you know are 99 % accurate, and if it is showing pregnant with 2-3 + it shows that you're pregnant. The drugs you're taking have no interactions with the pregnancy test because preganacy is indicated by the presence/absence of hcg in the serum or urine. It is a hormone and no drugs change its formation in any way.
You can give me some more details about your cycle length. When was your LMP? What is your normal cycle length? And did you have unprotected intercourse in recent times? This is just to confirm and predict your exact duration of pregnancy based on your history and expected ovulation date.
Also i will advise you to follow up your test results with a gynaecologist, who can correctly advise you which drugs to avoid in pregnancy. And also if required take an ultrasund which is the most conclusive evidence for detecting and approximating the duration of pregnancy.
Hope this was helpful,
Regards.

I usually start around the 6 - 8th of the month and so I'm a couple weeks late. Last start date was July 8th. Length is usually 4 to 5 days. I'm pretty regular, unless under extreme stress - which I have been so I didn't think much of it but thought I should take a test anyway.
I'm married so we weren't trying to get pregnant, but weren't not trying either - if that makes sense.
I did schedule an appointment with my doctor but they can't get me in for another week and a half so I'm considering looking for another doctor at this point.

Hello.
Yeah in that case it does explain the clearblue test results too.
Because if july 8th was your last cycle date then you probably ovulated around the 22nd-23rd and assuming fertilization occured around then, it means you will be around a month pregnant now.
The best result will be given by an ultrasound. These tests still have 1-2 % chances of a false positive results at times. And the etiology is not really known why that happens. But it definitely is not due to the drugs. Hence sooner you can book an appointment with some other doctor and get that ultrasound, the better.
Hope i have been able to help you,
Regards.
