Resolved question:
Hi,
I have an important drug test coming up early this week for a job. Last night without realizing it I ate a sandwich that was made with a poppy seed bun. The bun was not totally covered in poppy seeds but it probably had about 24-36 seeds total. Is this something I should be worried about? if so what could I do about it?
Thanks.

Hello,
Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.
Although the opioid content of poppy seed is very less, it still can show a positive result in drug test. In drug tests there will be cut of levels for each drug (or its metabolic component). So if you have only taken 24-36 seeds in total your opioid levels will be well below the threshold cut off levels, in the worst case scenario. Chances are that it won’t show at all (most likely scenario), since you will have at least 2 days interval between the consumption and the test.
So you are safe.
PS : It’s better not to mention about consumption of poppy seed prior or after testing (unless it is specifically asked). This is a common excuse made by drug abusers and you could appear suspicious for them.
Good luck for the Job and testing
