Droopy eye surgery

Resolved Question:

Hello ,
I had a droopy-eye surgery (shortening aponeurosis) 7 years go in Japan.
Since then I had a difficulty in moving ( Both eyes couldn't move at all months after that. I could see only straight because of the feeling that eyes are "stuck" by somehting. ) and dystonia of the eyes and faces and right shoulders started.
The former symptoms have eased and gradually gone as time went by, accompanied with the feeling of the muscle and something inside around my eyes and eyebrow and forehead "snapped with a popping sound and spasmic contractions of the area every time ...

Currently I have dystonia, nystagmas, and (occasional) feeling of dizziness. I have a pain clinic and have an injections along the eyebrows every week for a year. I get dizzy very easily and I cannot read nor concentrate because of the uncomfortable feeling. When I focus and see something with concentration, I feel like my eyes are moving around and some muscles get contract. So I look at things just like when seeing something without any focus or concentration so that I dont feel the sysmpotoms much.

I am not sure what I should do. I have visited many doctors all over japan but they dont know what to do. I want to study and work.... all these symptoms dont allow me to either of activities. I cannot read books after that surgery. Do you any idea or suggestions?
YU

I am afraid that my writing sounds in coherent and too abstract.... I cannot explain only with the feelings i have...

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.
I have to agree , your symptoms description is bit abstract. But I strongly suspect a Neurological involvement. Have you undergone a Neurological evaluation ? Have you undergone an MRI study of the brain ? Is there a standing diagnosis (the one that cause the drooping eyelids in the first place ?

You can reply as a followup
Thank you

Since the consult is more of a mutispeicality consult , Dr.Deepu Sebin Sebastian (Internal Medicine Specialist ) will over see this.

I had a fundus examination and I had a nystagmus, and dystonia. that was diagnoses from a pain doctor and a ophthalmologist. Neurologists say they dont see me having a dystonia on an exact time so they cannot say anything. The former doctors who diagnosed have seen the symptoms.

Hello,

Sorry, I feel your concern is bit too complicated and multi-disciplinary. I might not able to help you via online consultation. (Physical examination is a must). Sorry about that. You can contact suppor@doctorspring,com for a full refund or reassignment of the consult to a Neurologist.

Thank you

Hi,

I can understand your discomfort, as it prevents you doing a very basic activity such as reading and writing, and moreover, no proper diagnosis has been made for almost 7 years.

Based on your symptoms, there are two main possibilities:

1. Ocular myasthenia: this condition can be further evaluated by doing "ice pack" test, tensilon test and repetitive nerve stimulation tests. If those tests were done/inconclusive, I would suggest starting a course of pyridostigmine tablets empirically, and look for improvement.

2. Dyskinesia- There is no specific test for this. Clinical examination by a neurologist would help.
If the diagnosis is suspected, a course of trihexiphenidyl and tetrabenazine tablets can be given, and any improvement can be looked for.

I hope it helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries.

Best wishes,

Patient replied :

If that is case of dyskinesia, is there any way to relieve the nystagmus and contractions?
Also, I feel dazzled. Everything is very bright. Is there any way to reduce this feeling?

I heard botox is used for dystonia's contraction... is it effective for this brightness as well? Do you think it is helpful for me?

Thank you for getting back.

Botox injections may not help in your condition.

Best wishes
