In women the vagina normally has more of good bacteria and less of harmful bacteria. Bacterial vaginitis is is also known as BV takes place when the balance is about to change. It results in an increase in bad bacteria and reduction of good bacteria. It is one of the most prevalent of vaginal infections in women who are of childbearing age.
What causes this disease? It is not clearly known as to how do women get this disease. Almost any woman can get it. Some of the common reasons are:
- Douching
- Having a new sex partner or many sex partners
- Using a birth control product
- Not using a condom
You cannot get BV from:
- Bedding
- Toilet seats
- Touching objects around you
- Swimming pools
How is BV treated?
It is possible for you to treat this disease with antibiotic medicines which can be prescribed by your doctor. Mostly the male sex partners of those women with this disease need not be treated. However, this disease can spread to the female partners. If your present partner is a female then you should talk to her with regards to the treatment. You can get this disease again even if you have been treated.
