Resolved question:
I developed a sinus infection as a result of a cold nearly 2 months ago. I was put on doxycycline for 2 weeks and then a steroid nasal spray when the inflammation in my nose had not resided. I can smell things quite clearly up close to my nose but smells from a distance seem to come and go. I cannot really taste anything at all. I am now on a course of Amoxicillan and Prednisone to try and get rid of the inflammation once and for all. I also had a CT Scan which did not show any blockages just some mucous and inflammation. If I burp I can taste my food. Does this mean I will get my taste back when everything clears up? How long could this take? I still feel tightness in the bridge of my nose and one nostril still seems more blocked than the other. I am sooo scared that I will not go back to normal and will not be able to taste and smell again and have a constant nauseous feeling but wonder if this is being caused by stress.
Thanks for your help.

Hello,
Thank you for using DoctorSpring.com
You are suffering from sinus infection, loss of smell and taste sensation for 2 months. Your main concern is taste. Our perception of food is flavour which is smell of food n taste. So many time loss of smell will cause change in taste. It ll improve with time.
As you CT scan is almost normal so you have limited sinus disease. Still examination by ent specialist with nasal endoscope will give some more information. If facility availabe a test for smell can be done.
After completing course of antibiotic you can conitinue steroid nasal spray for 3 months.
Hope this helps
