Let me summarize the medical history >
You are suffering from cold and cough and started on antibiotics.
You are getting recurrent cold and you want to avoid antibiotics because of its side effects.
Let me explain the disease >
Most of the time cold is due to viral infection and we don’t need to treat it with antibiotics. If cold is due to bacterial infection then we need to take antibiotics. When we start antibiotic we should complete the course of 5 to 7 days.
Symptoms of bacterial infection are Fever, or purulent yellowish nasal discharge or headache or throat pain.
Most of cold we can treat with general measure like steam inhalartion, antiallergic medicine like cetrizine and decongestant like phenylepherine.
At present you are started on Cefdinir, you should continue same for 5 days. It will not cause any side effect.
Summary :
Continue same treatment
Next time with common cold start with symptomatic medication
Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask if you have any further queries.
Thank you.
