Calcified focus likely Calcified granuloma in apicoposterior segment of right upper lung

Resolved Question:

My wife did CT chest Scan today and the finding of CT scan is "Calcified focus (likely Calcified granuloma) in apicoposterior segment of right upper lung".

Could you pls let me know what is calcified granuloma. Also, is it dangerous?

Also, she did momography and report is normal. She had a strong history of genetic cancer.

Is Calcified granuloma related with lung cancer? Pls advise

Hello,

Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.

Calcified granuloma mentioned in the CT is not related to cancer. Calcified granulomas are equivalents of scars in the human skin .( Although not same). Granuloma (a collection of some cells) occurs following infections or inflammation. Once it heals over a period of time, calcification occurs. So basically its a healed infection or inflammation, which is not significant now.

Most common cause for such lesion is Tuberculosis in India. But no need to worry, its appears to be an old lesion. TB infection (especially in childhood) can occur in lot individuals which might never manifest. Rest assured this is not cancer related.

Hope this helps
Thank you
