Hi,
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com. I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
I went through your post about blood in stool.
There are a number of causes for blood in stool. Some of the common causes are hemorrhoids, fissure, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulosis and cancer.
Since barium xrays did not show anything, it is less likely that you have cancer.
To know why you have blood in stool, a colonoscopy test may be done. In this test, a long slender tube will be introduced through the anal opening to look in to the colon and anorectum.
Since you are constipated sometimes, hemorrhoids is a possibility.
Take high fiber diet, fiber supplements like metamucil and drink lot fluids for good bowel movements.
Hope this helps, would be glad to answer any follow-ups.
Regards,
Dr.R.K

having blood in my stools since November.I sometimes

sysmptons regarding the upper GI.I hope you can help
me as I am concerned about cancer.Thank-you for your
help.I some times feel sick at times.
Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me with more questions.
In your first post you mentioned about only about blood in stools.
Black stools indicate bleeding in the upper GI tract. It should be black , tarry, sticky, offensive stool.
Similar looking stool can occur after taking pepto bismol or iron supplements.
Intermittent black stool may not be actually due to bleeding.
An upper GI endoscopy may be done to rule out any bleeding from the upper GI tract.
I presume that answers your question. Would be glad to answer any follow-ups.

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me with more questions and my apologies for the delay with the reply.
It is less likely that you may be having cancer.
Because, your barium xrays did not reveal anything. Also you did not have other red flag signs and symptoms like loss of weight, early satiety, anemia etc.
Having said that I would recommend you to a get an upper GI endoscopy done ( though it was done last year) which would confirm that you do not have any cancer in the upper GIT.
I hope that answers your question. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr.R.K
