Hello. Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Phimosis is a very common problem, and circumcision is what you indeed need to do. Because there have been ample number of cases, where the tight foreskin was neglected and later after marriage, it led to a condition called paraphimosis, where the foreskin was not able to retract at all, and venous blood flow completely stagnated in the penis.
Circumcision is one of the commonest performed procedure, can be done under GA, and even the recovery does not take more than a week. It is very healthy, since after circumcision, there are no chances of any smegma accumulation. This reduces the chances of infection. Also studies say, post circumcision there are no chances of penile carcinoma in the future. The slit operation is what is followed commonly. There are other methods like preputioplasty, bell technique, e.t.c, but slit surgery is commonly followed.

Thansk doctore - you mentioned recovery takes only a week , but I read that we have to abstian from sex / even erection for about 6 weeks to allow it to heal . Is this right ?
Is there any specifc type of circumcision preferred - to heal faster or anything
Hello. Thank you for posting the follow up.
In adults the recovery takes slightly longer as compared to infants. The pain and the localised edema that is there after the surgery comes down in one week's time and you will be able to resume your normal work. It is better to wait for around 4 weeks before any sexual activity can be resumed for proper healing. Apart from that by recovery, i meant to say that you will be able to resume your normal work within a week's time. Slit operation is what they commonly follow and seems to be effective and leads to a faster recovery.
