Resolved question:
I went in to the doctor about 3 weeks ago, got some oral antibiotics and pain meds for an ear inner ear infection, I was sleeping on my right side and started hearing a beating noise or knocking as if it was going along with my heart. Is this normal with an ear infection? Normally when I get ear infections, I do not have the beating sound in my ear. I have had some slight chills before this started and I felt them some today but it hasn't been everyday. Is that cause of the infection?
3 weeks later & been to the doctor 3 times with the 3rd time got the diagnosis of otitis externa. This time I got antibiotic ear drops. It's been 3 days now since my 3rd trip to the doctor. I still have quite a bit of swelling in & around my ear and my face. 3 days ago it itched awful bad. And now it's still pretty swollen. And now my head feels like a headache or dizziness coming on. Is the headache & or dizziness a cause for concern with this severe otitis externa? How long does it take to clear up? The first night of antibiotic ear drops I experience some hammering like noise in my ear as if someone was hammering. Do I need to get in to see a doctor again? How soon? Thanks!

Hello
Thank you for posting your query at Doctorspring.com
I can understand your problem.
You are suffering from right ear pain since 3 weeks. Pain associated with swelling in and around ear, you also have tinnitus(beating noise). You have headace and giddiness also.
Most likely your diagnosis is otitis externa only(infection of external ear). But is looks fungal infection (not bacterial).
Because itching usually associated with fungal infection. First we need to confirm the diagnosis, and need cleaning of ear under microscope if required. So you need examination by a local ENT specialist.
Headache and giddiness may be due to same ear infection.
You require adequate analgesic medication also for pain relief (this will reduce inflammation/swelling also.)
If no improvement since last visit you need a repeat examination. Nothing urgent but you should get symptomatic improvement.
Hope this helps,
Feel free to discuss further,

I have had no ear pain or as much clogginess in my right ear for about a week almost now. At times I can feel just a little bit of clogginess. Over the last 4 nights there were 2 nights I have been hearing a hammering in my ear. Do you think my ear may be damaged from the infection? The hammering was a little louder these times. Why would I be experiencing the hammering in my ear?
thanks!

Your main complaints is tinnitus(beating/hammering noise).
First we need to confirm the diagnosis, and need cleaning of ear under microscope
if required. So you need examination by a local ENT specialist.
you need a audiogram (hearing test) to rule out any effect on hearing nerve(as
this tinnitus may be sign of hearing nerve damage.
you can start Tab. Gincoba bilovas once dialy for one month for treatment of
tinnitus
Hope this helps,
Regards.
