Augmentin and Metronidazole taken concurrently

Resolved question:
I am being treated for gum inflammation (I guess it would be considered gingivitis) and was prescribed Metronizadole and Augmentin. I would like to know if I can take these consecutively and not concurrently. I was told that taking these concurrently is necessary to prevent stomach problems that might occur from Augmentin. Is this true?
