ANXIETY due to heart rate averaging around 100bpm.

Resolved question:
Dear doctor,

My heart rate averages 100 bpm, almost all day long.
The heart itself seems healthy though, according to my family doctor.
Therefore it would apprear that the high heart rate might be caused by anxiety.
My doctor prescribed me Inderal (propanolol) 10 mg. I have tried 10 mg, 20 mg and 30 mg but it does not seem to work as hoped/expected.
My very recent thiroid tests are normal (TSH=2,45 and T4=1,2).
What could I do next in order to bring my pulse down to a more normal level?

Thanks and kind regards,
Adrian

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Do you have any history of irregular beats or do you feel any kind of skipped beats?
Have you taken any ECG? If so, will you be able to share it?
Any history of shortness of breath or chest pain? What is your height and weight? Also, what is your age?
Please reply and I will get back to you.

Hi,
I am 32 year old. I am 1,74 meters tall and I weight 79 kg.
I don't have any history, I don't feel any kind of skipped beats. I never experienced shortness of breath. However, occasionally I feel like my chest hurts, but rather in a mild way.
I had an EEG 5 years old patientago, I don't remember why but it was not because I was accusing heart issues. I obviously don't have it.
I think I have always been like this (including being anxious). It is only by accident that I discovered that my pulse is actually so high.
My generalist examined me two days ago. Besides the obvious tachycardia, I don't remember him making any other remarks.
Thanks,
Adrian

Tachycardia is a common manifestation of the anxiety and stress.
Since you have no other associated cardiac symptoms, and the ECG was normal, there is no cause to worry.
I would advise you to repeat the ECG, since the last time was 5 years old patientback, and follow up with me.
About anxiety, you can meet a psychologist who can suggest some calming techniques like yoga, meditation, e.t.c, or you can go for the CBT therapy which also helps in reducing the stress levels. Among medication, Alprazolam ( 0.25-0.5 mg ) can be taken once daily, which reduces the anxiety.
