Hi,
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com.
I have noted the symptoms of your mother and also gone through the reports, including brain scan.
Based on her symptoms and report, she seems to be suffering from dementia, where there is progressive loss of memory and other cognitive brain functions.
The most likely cause of her dementia seems to be Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is a degenerative disease of the brain and there is no cure.
However, there are several good medications such as donepezil, rivastigmine, and memantine, which help patients with AD a lot. Your mother could be started on them.
In addition, keeping her active, keeping her BP and sugar under normal limits, would ensure that her disease does not progress rapidly.
Also, the life span would be almost normal.
I hope it helps. Please get back, if you have any follow up queries.
Best wishes,
Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
